Chater Infant School Year 2

Year 2 had a fantastic time taking part in an exciting fencing session today. The children developed their focus, accuracy and quick reflexes while learning the importance of respect, communication and good sportsmanship. They listened carefully to their opponents and the referee, demonstrating excellent teamwork throughout the activity. With safe equipment provided by expert coaches, the children enjoyed a fun, energetic experience and left the session feeling proud, revitalised and full of enthusiasm!

Year 2 had an exciting visit from Code Ninjas this week! They loved exploring the world of coding and learned how to create their very own interactive games using Scratch Junior. The children practised coding simple sprites, making them move, talk, and even record their own voices to bring their creations to life.  It was a fantastic hands-on experience that sparked lots of creativity and enthusiasm for technology—we may have some future programmers in the making!

 Helen from Magic Lantern brought an inspiring street art session to Year 2 class, introducing the children to artists including Banksy, Stik, and My Dog Sighs. We explored Banksy’s Cave Painting Removal , a piece showing a worker washing away prehistoric art, alongside Stik’s simple stick figures and My Dog Sighs’ tiny paintings on discarded chewing gum. The visit sparked lots of curiosity and creativity, helping pupils see how art can tell powerful stories in unexpected places. 

Year 2 had a fantastic day at the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery in Aylesbury, where we explored exciting interactive exhibits inspired by Roald Dahl’s famous stories. We crawled through Fantastic Mr Fox’s tunnel, investigated minibeasts from James and the Giant Peach , discovered how sound works with the BFG and enjoyed lots of hands-on science activities. In our workshop, we explored the gallery for inspiration and created our own predator glove puppets to take home. 

  We were delighted to welcome back Mrs Lambert to our Year 2 classrooms this week. As part of our Australia topic, the children used charcoal and watercolour to create artwork inspired by the Australian landscape and wildlife. They used texture, contrast, and colour to bring their work to life with soft, layered washes of colour.

Year 2 took part in an exciting athletics competition! The focus of the competition was on having fun. The children took part in track events such as relays and obstacle relays and activities such as speed bounce, javelin and standing long jump.
